Users review: I saw a screening of Gangster Squad last night and to say the least, I was impressed. I had decent expectations of the film with a strong cast people from Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling with a director whose last two movies I enjoyed (Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less) . So what happened? As the summary says he was incredibly click? all gangster films out there and tried so hard to be like LA Confidential and untouchable. Although this film could have done much better in the 90s, I do not feel it fits in this generation has film.You Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen, who decides that wants to be the king of Los Angeles, and it will be that which is his way. Nick Nolte plays the chief of police who is tired of the way LA immediately and recruit hard nose, do-as-I-please Sgt. John Omara (Josh Brolin) to create an elite team to take down Cohen. From there you have the necessary round-up-the team where he won the bi-focal smart guys, the thief past-his-prime and side kick, the black token and the police officer, who did not want to join the first, but is then pushed into the fray.You has a typical hunting villain, a few issues where the amount of germs , incredible ball flight and nobody touched, and very flat romance you're wondering why these two are together for no other reason than they really are beautiful. There were also moments in the climax of the film where the audience laughed and I think it was incredibly unwarranted.The only real redeeming quality was Sean Penn , which gave an intense powerful than Mickey Cohen performance. Overall, I was disappointed in Gangster Squad, and it feels like the entire film brought nothing new to the table of the gangster genre.
